From Sunrise to Campfire
What to Expect on an Typical Day on Safari
Guests on a game drive at Little Chem Chem Lodge in Tanzania.
Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime?
This is not always how it is on safari, because different properties and countries do things their own way, but, it will give you a decent idea on what to expect.
You’ll likely start your day just before sunrise, with birdsong in the air and maybe the distant rumble of a lion calling in the background.
There’s a quiet sense of anticipation - coffee in hand, layers on, and a full day of wildlife and wide-open spaces ahead. Just another beautiful morning on safari.
-
As the sun rises, you climb into the open 4x4 with your guide and tracker, ready to see what the day brings. The air is crisp, the light is golden, and before long, you’re watching a tower of giraffes nibbling leaves in the trees -unbothered, graceful, and somehow even taller than you imagined.
You snap a few photos, but mostly, you just take it in.
-
After a few hours out in the bush, it’s time to stretch your legs and enjoy breakfast under a shady tree. Your guide sets up a simple spread - fresh fruit, eggs, muffins, and a hot cup of coffee or tea. It’s unpretentious and delicious, with nothing but open skies and wild views all around.
-
After a full morning out, you head back to camp for a relaxed lunch. The food is fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and you swap stories with fellow travelers while your guide shares a few more fun facts about the morning’s sightings.
-
The afternoon is yours. It all depends on what the camp offers - you might take a nap, head out on a gentle bush walk, visit a nearby village, or just unwind with a swim or a spa treatment. Whatever you choose, the pace is easy, and entirely up to you.
-
As the day cools, you head out for an evening game drive. The light is golden - perfect for photography - and the bush starts to come alive in a different way to the morning drives. As night falls, your guide switches on a spotlight and you might spot nocturnal creatures like hyenas or civets beginning to stir. It’s a beautiful time to be out, with new sounds, a slower rhythm, and a bit of mystery in the air.
-
As the drive winds down, you stop for sundowners - a beloved safari ritual. With a drink in hand and snacks to nibble on, you watch the sun slip below the horizon from a quiet, scenic spot. Back at camp, dinner is warm and relaxed - maybe a barbecue under the stars or a cozy three-course meal - shared with fellow travelers and guides as the stories from the day continue to unfold.
-
As night settles in, you head to your tent or room - cozy, quiet, and surrounded by nature. The sounds of the bush lull you to sleep: an owl calling, leaves rustling, maybe even a hyena in the distance. You drift off feeling full - of stories, sightings, and gratitude, and curious for what tomorrow might bring.
At the end of the day, no two safaris are ever the same, but every one of them is special. From early morning drives to quiet evenings by the fire, your time in the bush is filled with wonder, beauty, and connection. With expert guides, delicious meals, and plenty of space to slow down and take it all in, a safari isn’t just a trip, it’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve unpacked your bags.
We can’t wait for you to be a part of this incredible experience with us - looking forward to you getting in touch so we can make this a reality for you.
