Safari Activities with Wander Africa

We encourage you to get out of the car, immerse and experience everything you can! Africa is paradise when it comes to your choice of activities. Every country offers new and unique experiences. Set sail in a vintage wooden sailboat (Dhow) on the Zanzibar coast at sunset, ride mountain bikes among the wildlife in the Masai Mara, kayak with the elephants in Botswana, bungee jump at the Victoria Falls, or go sand boarding down a dune in the Skeleton Coast of Namibia. Adventure has no bounds.

Here are just a few possibilities…

Game Drive Botswana

Game drives

Crisp, fresh air kissing your skin as you drive in search of Africa’s wildlife. A custom Land Cruiser or Land Rover trekking through rugged terrain across various landscapes, crossing rivers, climbing rocky hills or cruising past a herd of a thousand wildebeest. The game drive is the quintessential safari experience.

Guided Bush Walks Borana

Guided Bush walks

This is your opportunity to get out of the vehicle and experience the wilderness on foot with a trained guide. In addition to seeing large mammals, a guided bush walk exposes you to the insects, small mammals, and birds that maintain the ecosystem. Situational awareness is key as you pay attention to the calls, the sounds, and the smells around you. Our personal favorite activity!

Cultural Experiences

Cultural Immersion

Being on safari is not just about the wildlife. We have so much to learn from the ancient cultures found across the continent. Engage, absorb, and fall in love with the people, the customs, and the lifestyles of many of Africa’s indigenous tribes: the Damara Tribe of Namibia, the Masai of East Africa, the San Tribe of the Kalahari, and the Omo Valley tribes of Ethiopia, to name a few. They welcome you, they engage you, they teach you, and you leave with a whole new perspective on life.

Hot Air Balloon

Enjoy an unusual 5 a.m. wake-up call with the heat from the burners warming you up as you rise 1,500 feet into the air synchronized with the rising sun. As the burners turn off and the balloon floats, you are treated to pin drop silence and 360 degree views as far as the eye can see. Elephant herds below you, lions calling in the distance, birds flying by at eye level, and you pinching yourself to make sure it’s all real. At the end of it, you are treated to a full continental breakfast with champagne surrounded by the bush.

Mountain Biking Masai Mara

Mountain Biking

Why not get some leg work in while on safari? Instead of dealing with pedestrians and crazy drivers, you can ride along near elephants, zebra, or whatever else you may come across. Some places offer electric mountain bikes, which are immense fun, while others opt for the more traditional mountain biking experience.

Horseback/Camelback Safaris

Relax in the gentle sways of riding horseback, trekking further into the wild, as you get up close and personal with some of Africa’s most incredible wildlife. From lions to elephants, the horses on safari are taught to blend in with nerves of steel. Combining the magic of being on a horse with the magic of being in the wild is an out-of-this-world experience.

The most wonderful trip with continuous ‘Wow!’ moments for all seven of us. Wander Africa’s team made sure that wandering has to be authentic in every way. The timing, food, automobiles, hotels, services and the whole journey deserves five stars. Jay and Irene, along with their team of Masai Guide Leperes, started at Amboseli and Oliver to end at Masai Mara and did excellent job! The best tour to take at least once in this lifetime.
